Fearless, compassionate, and advocate of making every meeting fun and engaging, Sylvia has a knack for connecting communities and magnifying the best in everyone she meets.
She's instinctively drawn to what's possible, avoids dogma, and is often the first to ask, "what if," all of which make her a masterful strategist and design explorer.
Sylvia is an engaging facilitator and educator. She wrote curriculum and trained over 20,000 young people and adults over 10 years as a Learning and Development Trainer for Planned Parenthood Los Angeles. While she was at it, she helped develop a multi-pronged health intervention that demonstrated increased knowledge, belief, and behavior change in a randomized controlled trial evaluated by the Public Health Institute. The curriculum and training program is currently in use across California.
In her spare time, Sylvia co-founded Immediate Justice, a filmmaking nonprofit that has enabled over 1,000 young people across the U.S., Uganda, India and China to tell their stories through film. This year, she's building courage through her skateboarding community, Skate Like a Girl, where serves on the Board of Directors and coaches youth skateboarding
Sylvia graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Economics and received an MBA in Sustainable Business at Presidio Graduate School where she earned a Certificate in Cooperative Management and was the co-chair of the Diversity and Social Justice Initiative. She also studied improv at the famed Upright Citizen’s Brigade theater, where she developed a tolerance for ambiguity and a new appreciation for saying, "Yes, and…"
In a nutshell, Sylvia is a delight to work with. She reminds us regularly that there's just not enough time in the day to do everything worthwhile, so we're going to have to choose carefully.
